A Heartbreaking Work

Earlier, I posted that I had read The Every by Dave Eggers and found it punishing.

I am now reading A Heartbreaking Work of a Staggering Genius. It is almost inconceivable that these two books are by the same author. AHOASG is raw and unpolished, while The Every is a smoothed-out, emotionless book.

In between, I read Lord of the Flies, William Golding’s classic that I should have read much earlier, and Over de lengte van een gang by Herman Koch.

Beelden overkomen je

Sommige beelden overkomen je. Je speurt de hele dag veel te intensief naar beelden en dan onverwacht staat er een voor je.

Een mirakel in Sint Odiliënberg.

The Every, meh

I finished reading The Every by Dave Eggers yesterday. What a tedious, humorless book, and not even very well written. The only surprising thing about the book was (spoiler) the ending: not a happy ending, the protagonist disappears into a ravine.

I am immediately having fun.
